All newborn/family portrait sessions are special in my eyes, but this one was extra special - I had the honor of capturing Ryan and Megan's engagement photos, wedding photos, and now capturing their newest addition to their beautiful family - Miss Evelyn. Erica + Jordan | An Autumn Affair

Erica and Jordan are what I would call risk takers for 3 big reasons - 1. they planned a backyard ceremony 2. in the Upper Peninsula 3. the last weekend in September. Their gamble paid off in a BIG way. Not only were the fall colors in full force and the skies blue - it was 78+ degrees! Surrounded by those they love, Erica and Jordan exchanged vows they wrote themselves beneath towering maples in her parent's backyard. It could not have been more perfect. Their love and the love of those in attendance was nearly tangible and it was an honor to be there to capture it. Here are just a few images from their day. Enjoy!

This fur coat was Erica's grandmother's coat and she and I both got chills while taking these portraits, we agreed she must have been present and swooning over how gorgeous her granddaughter looked in her coat.

Erica grew up climbing this tree and it was so great to be able to incorporate it into their wedding day images!

Alicia + Rob | Copper Harbor Engagement

Alicia and Rob are the sweetest couple and full of life, love, and lots of laughter! We went back to where their next chapter officially started for their session - Copper Harbor. While in Copper Harbor on a snowmobiling adventure in early 2014, Rob asked Alicia a life changing question - to which the answer was "YES!"!! It was only fitting that we utilize the expansive vistas offered by Brockway Mountain to start their session. They also brought their 1963 Willys Jeep and their handsome pup Max! We could not have ordered a more beautiful day - here is just a sampling of their engagement session!!

I have had the joy and the honor of capturing the Carollo family the past few years - as well as work with Jamie at many weddings (she is an AMAZING stylist!!). They are such a fun family and our sessions prove that even in the worst of scenarios, they are ready to make the best and most fun out of it! Our very first session together two years ago had almost been rained out - but with a bit of faith and a "go for it" attitude, we were blessed with sunshine. When we saw the forecast for a rainy, cold day I suggested we reschedule but Jamie said we'd give it a shot!! And that we did! It was raining, almost snowing, for their mid-September family portrait session and we just couldn't believe it! Unfortunately, the rain never really did break, but we did get a lot of really fun shots in the rain. I happened to be in town for a wedding the following week and the forecast was lightyears different - a high of 80 degrees (what!? Totally unheard of for that time of year!) - and the leaves were at peak, so I contacted Jamie and asked if we could do a mini-session to get a few fun leave photos and being the awesome family they are, they of course said "Yes!". Here are just a few photos from their family portrait session!! :D

Baby Perry | 2014 Newborn Lifestyle Session

He just couldn't wait to meet his parents (and who could blame him, they are AMAZING people!) and made his arrival earlier than expected. This session combined my three favorite things - wonderful people, pups, and photography. My heart was leaping for joy from the moment Sarah contacted me earlier this year to schedule an early fall session.This session was extra special as it included Sandy, a now three-legged pup who wagged her tail at overwhelming odds and overcame cancer and powered through an amputation. I've shed more than a few tears keeping track of Sandy's illness and recovery and was so honored to be able to capture this strong and wonderful family Here are just a few images from their session!

Makuck Family | 2015

The Makuck family is near and dear to my heart. I've had the honor and privilege of knowing Christy via ice hockey for close to a decade now and was so very excited for their session! The light was AHHHMAZINNNG - as were their outfits!! This was essentially a two-part session in that we had the direct family photo session first at Bewabic State Park, and then we traveled to the Makuck home where we were joined by Christy's sister, niece, and parents. This second half was particularly important as Christy's father underwent heart surgery the following week. I am happy to report that the surgery was successful and he is on the mend. Here are just a few images from their session - Enjoy!

Heather + Alex | Keweenaw Engagement

I had the pleasure of meeting/working with Heather and Alex to capture their engagement photos where their path to marital bliss truly began - Alex's family cabin on the eastern shoreline of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Alex had proposed to Heather with a message in the sand exactly one year to the day of their engagement session - which made their session all the more special! They included their beautiful pup Maize, made a small fire on the beach, did a quick canoe paddle in the rare calm waters of Lake Superior, skipped stones (haha or threw them in the water), and just plain ol' rocked their engagement session from start to finish! Here is just a sampling from their session!

Brooke + Matt | Majestic Matrimony

Matt and Brooke truly have something special - their love is almost tangible when you are near them and they beam at the mere thought of one another. Their wedding was absolutely beautiful - the weather, the location, their friends and family, and certainly the couple themselves. Their ceremony was held on the lawn at the stately Four Seasons Resort on Miscauno Island in northern Wisconsin and their reception was held in the resort's Summer Salon. The old iron bridges, weeping willows, rolling grounds, exquisite mansion with 1920's detail and flare, and of course a horse and carriage made this wedding truly majestic. Here is just a sampling of the images from their dream-come-true day.

Perry Family | Lifestyle Session

I have had the honor of knowing the Perry family my entire life. In fact, they are distant cousins of mine. They are some of the kindest, most honest people and Helen, Christine, and Emily bring the word "selfless" to a level beyond that which I have ever witnessed. Not only are these three generations of women living under one roof, they have all - at one point or another - put their lives on complete hold for one another. Emily dropped absolutely everything to be there for Chris as she kicked breast cancer's butt, Chris has been there every step of the way for Emily to help her raise her beautiful son Owen, and Helen has been there for them both.

Helen lost her husband and best friend last year and has slowly started to succumb to Alzheimer's - and in true Perry fashion, both Emily and Chris have dedicated their lives to being her primary caretaker for as long as they can. Though this journey is difficult for all of them, it has undoubtedly created the most wonderful and unique opportunity to share their lives. The love in that house is tangible and I had thought that there would be no better way to celebrate and honor that love than to do a lifestyle session to capture a 'day in the life' at the Perry homestead. Emily + Ryan | Summer Solstice Soirée

This wedding was absolutely gorgeous - from sun up to sun down. I have had the honor and privilege of knowing Emily + Ryan throughout their relationship and that made the day all the more special. There was so much joy and happiness that most of us spilled over with tears at least a few times throughout the day. I just cannot say enough about how highly I regard these two and how very honored I am to have been able to capture their beautiful day. Here is just a sampling of the photos from their detailed and beautiful Summer Solstice Soirée in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Their ceremony took place at Hagerman Lake Park in Iron River, Michigan and their tented reception was held at the Listening Inn in Crystal Falls, Michigan.

The parents of the newlyweds keeping each other close as they watch their children dance their first dance as husband and wife.

Mid-family portraits, the parents of the bride heard their song being played and requested a break to dance together...

Brooke and Matt are the kind of couple that just make you involuntarily sigh with happiness when you are around them. They are sweet, have a contagious zest for life, and have a tangible love for one another. Their vivaciousness and love of laughter definitely spilled over into their engagement session and made for the most spectacular afternoon!! The weatherman had called for a heavy rain that day so we came prepared to make the most out of it - rain boots and umbrellas were packed and a "fun in the rain" engagement session plan began to take shape. BUT as luck would have it, the sun was brilliantly shinning and their session was warm and dry. Of course we had to have some fun with the boots and umbrella, but we were all so very glad that we did not need them! Megan and Ryan had the most special location for their fall wedding - their spectacular backyard! Despite what the weathermen predicted, this day was absolutely perfect in every way. The brilliant sunshine made the river sparkle and the breeze swept down the hill to the ceremony making the fall leaves dance around the beautiful couple as they exchanged their vows. Megan was the quintessential blushing bride and Ryan beamed with pure joy the entire day. The wood and lace theme throughout their wedding tied into their personal style as well as paid homage to Ryan's logging company. Their reception was at the Armory in Iron River, Michigan and it filled with elegant, homemade touches - their guest book consisted of two a unique heart shaped wood cookies, how cute is that?! It truly was an honor to help this wonderful couple capture their big day and the love that they and their friends and family filled it with.

Cynthia and Josh both have such amazing personalities it is hard not to smile when in their presence. As a matter of fact, I think all of our cheeks hurt from smiling/laughing all day. They had a quaint and beautiful ceremony in the historic Pioneer Church (built in the 1890's) near the Michigamme River and a wonderful reception at Camp Christine on Lake Mary.

The love these two have for one another, their twin boys, their family, and their friends is palpable. These two have a zest for life and love to laugh - and laugh we did. The couple and their wedding party had everyone laughing from dawn till dusk and beyond. It was truly a joy and an honor to work with them and their friends and family.

This wedding was incredible to say the least - incredibly emotional, incredibly beautiful, incredibly fun.... I cannot say enough about this couple or their families. This couple loves one another with such conviction and passion, it was hard not to shed a tear as Daryl came down the aisle with teary eyes and a smile a mile wide. Come to think of it, there were a lot of tears of joy from everyone throughout the day - which goes to show how deeply the love runs in these families. They were wed at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church and held a tented reception at Fortune Lake Bible Camp, both in beautiful Crystal Falls, MI. Jessie & Dan have the kind of love that is palpable when you are in their presence. The way Dan looked at her that day gave most of those who witnessed their wedding a sense of awe and he had nearly every woman in the wedding party and family (and myself as well) tearing up throughout the day with his thoughtful words and kind gestures to his beautiful bride. Their day was beautiful from dawn to dusk. The rise of a full moon over the glass-like water of Lake Mary topped it all off. I have yet to witness another moonrise like it since. I had the honor of capturing Jessica & Jay Davis' wedding day on March 30, 2012 and it was a beautiful event. Their story is truly unique and their wedding day was a reflection of that.

True love is something most can never claim finding once,
these two were lucky enough to find twice, both times in one another.

Every now and again, you come across a couple that you can not only see their love, you can feel it.

Their ceremony was so much more than a wedding, it was a true family reunion.
